We perform a wide range of laboratory tests including:
Parasitological studies of feces and blood make it possible to detect internal parasites, many of which are also dangerous for humans. As we like to joke: «The microscope is the veterinarian's first friend», at least when it comes to parasitology. There is no more accurate way to determine a disease than to «see» it with your own eyes.
Fecal examinations reveal unicellular parasites (coccidia, giardia), roundworms, tapeworms. We make this examination mandatory for all baby dogs and cats and recommend it to all our patients during their annual vaccination. It is convenient for us if you bring 5-10 grams of faeces for examination (about 1-2 teaspoons or more) in a clean jar when examining your dog or cat (also an exotic animal). Otherwise, we collect secretions rectally with a special stick, which is not pleasant for pets, especially cats, and the feces obtained are not always sufficient for examination. It is mandatory for every pet to have a fecal examination annually.
Blood parasitological tests are also a very important part of determining the animal's health. With a small amount of blood, specific tests are done to determine if your pet is infected with parasites carried by blood-sucking insects.
The biochemical examination of the blood gives us very valuable information about the functioning of the organs in the animal's body. For adults, seriously ill animals and animals before surgery, we always do blood tests on our patients.
Complete and differential blood counts give information about blood cells, their number and their percentage ratio.
Serological blood tests prove with great accuracy some viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases. They detect antigens or antibodies of the causative agent and establish a definite diagnosis.
Hormonal studies - diagnoses of endocrinological diseases are made through them. The study of sex hormones can determine with great accuracy the appropriate moment for fertilization of the female dog.
Urine examination is indispensable for diseases of the excretory system, as well as for other important diseases, such as diabetes. It is also recommended as part of the preventive examination in adult animals.
Cytosmear is a secretion from a certain part of the body taken with a swab or a glass impression and then stained with special dyes. When viewed under a microscope, it shows us whether it is a purulent process or a tumor, for example.
Histological examination is a method of evaluating a thin layer of tissue under a microscope. Through it, an accurate diagnosis is made and a difference is made, for example, between a tumor and an inflammatory process, the exact type of tumor is determined. It is a basic diagnostic method in oncology.
Microbiological testing is used in combination with other tests and pinpoints the causative agents of some infections. We often use it for ear infections, skin infections, prostate diseases, hard-to-heal wounds, abscesses.
